Zanzibar Heroes suffer defeat to Burkina Faso in Mapinduzi Cup

Visiting Burkina Faso picked a 1-0 win against Zanzibar Heroes in a Mapinduzi Cup 2025 match played on Monday at the Gombani Stadium in Pemba.

After a goalless first half, the West African side scored through Hanaby Hadalou after 74 minutes.

The Heroes tried to fight back strongly, but failed to find the goals. Ali Suleiman Mtuli, the Zanzibar Heroes coach said that his players had tried to create several scoring opportunities, but were not sharp enough.

Burkina Faso who settled for a 1-1 draw in their opening match against Kenya now lead the log with 4 points, while Zanzibar Heroes who beat Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars 1-0 in the opening match are second with 3 points.

Action continues today with Kilimanjaro Stars facing Kenya. Burkina Faso will return to action on January 9th to face Tanzania, while the last match will see Kenya battle Zanzibar Heroes.

Tanzania, Kenya and Burkina Faso are using the Mapinduzi Cup to prepare for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship 2024 that will take place February 1-28th in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
