Mlandege FC suffer defeat in Addis Ababa

Zanzibar Premier League champions Mlandege FC suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Ethiopian Insurance in the first leg first preliminary round of the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

Mlandege FC came all out with dominating play in the early minutes of the match played at the Abebe Bikila Stadium.

New signing Amanuel Erbo opened the scoring in the 24th minute.

A collision between Erbo and Mlandege FC goalkeeper Hamad Hamad resulted in serious injuries to both players, who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Later Biruk Mulugeta who replaced the injured Erbo scored the second goal after 58 minutes. Mlandege FC tried to fight back strongly to find goals, but failed to beat the Ethiopian Insurance goalkeeper.

The return leg will be played on September 27th at the New Amaan Stadium.

On Sunday KMKM SC will host Djibouti’s AS du Port in the first leg of the first preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League at the New Amaan Stadium.
