Azam sink Simba SC to storm NMB Mapinduzi Cup final

Five time champions Azam FC are through to the final of the NMB Mapinduzi Cup 2026.

Handle by Florent Ibenge, Azam FC silenced Simba SC 1-0 in the first semi-final match played at the New Amaan Stadium on Thursday.

Defender Lameck Lawi netted the lone goal after 73 minutes, while Simba SC’s David Kameta Duchu was sent off two minutes into added time.

“I am happy the team has worked hard to reach the final of the tournament and now we get back to the drawing board to plan for the final,” said Azam FC captain Himid Mao Mkami.

The second semi final clash will take place on Friday between CECAFA reigning Kagame Cup winners Singida Black Stars FC and Young Africans SC.

While Aazm FC have lifted the Mapinduzi Cup a record five times, Simba SC have bagged the trophy three times, while Mtibwa Sugar FC, Young Africans SC and Zanzibar’s Mlandege FC have lifted the title twice.

The tournament sponsored by NMB Bank has this year attracted 10 teams including guest side Uganda Revenue Authority FC. The final will be played on January 13th at the Gombani Stadium.
