Zanzibar Heroes have defeated Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars 1-0 as the Mapinduzi Cup 2025 got underway at the Gombani Stadium in Pemba on Friday.

Skipper Feisal Salum ‘Fei Toto’ netted the lone goal for the home side to send the fans into celebration.

The Kilimanjaro Stars team missing some of their players who are busy with Young Africans SC and Simba SC for the CAF competitions tried to fight back to get a goal, but failed to break the Zanzibar defending line.

Action continues on Saturday with the only team from a different Zone Burkina Faso facing Kenya’s Harambee Stars at the same Gombani Stadium.

The tournament which was previously had top teams in the CECAFA Zone battle for top honours, is this year competed for by national teams.

The Mapinduzi Cup 2025 also played to celebrate the anniversary of the revolution of Zanzibar will conclude o January 10^th, 2025.
