A colourful Awards ceremony of the 2025/2026 PBZ Premier League has taken place at the New Amaan Hotel in Zanzibar on August 8th.

Among the outstanding stars awarded were KVZ SC’s Michael Godlove and Tarik Mkonga from JKU SC who each netted 21 goals to jointly bag the top scorer’s Award.

Mlandege SC’s Hamad Ubwa bagged the Best goalkeeper’s Award, while JKU SC’s Suleiman Mbarouk was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP). Feisal Salum ‘Fei Toto’ who features for Azan FC in the Tanzania Premier League won the MVP Award of Zanzibar.

The Second Vice President of Zanzibar, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla graced the ceremony as the guest of honour.

The event brought together Football administrators, Club Officials, players, coaches and other invited stakeholders to celebrate excellence in the domestic Premier League.

The Guest of Honour made it clear that the government’s investment in sports infrastructure, including the Zanzibar Sports City in Fumba, was part of wider preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.

Hemed noted that Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) has made progress in football governance, domestic competitions and use of digital systems to improve transparency and efficiency.

The Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Riziki Pembe Juma, reaffirmed the government’s support for ZFF and urged athletes and the general public to prepare to reap from opportunities linked to AFCON 2027.

Yahya Abdalla Shamuni, the ZFF Vice President who thanked all the winners made it clear that the Federation was implementing reforms to bring football management closer to international standards.
