Tanzania Boys win CAF Schools Football Championship

The Tanzania Boys team are the winners of the Boys category of the 2024 CAF Schools Football Championship that concluded at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
Tanzania defeated Guinea 1-0 in the final played on Friday, May 24th, 20224. Abel Samson scored the vital goal that saw Tanzania emerge champions.
To reach the final the Tanzanian team stopped Benin 2-0 at the semi-final stage.
The South African team emerged champions in the girl’s category after beating Morocco 5-4 in penalty shootouts after the game had ended 1-1.
For the bronze medal match Senegal stopped Benin in penalties for the boys, while Uganda stopped Tanzania 1-0 in the girl’s category
The winners of both the Boys’ and Girls’ competition each received cheques of USD 300 000 prize money and gold medals, while the runners-up each received cheques of USD 200 000 and silver medals.
The third placed teams received bronze medals and cheques of USD 150 000 each.
The tournament is supported by CAF and partnership with the Motsepe Foundation.
Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the CAF President and the Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba graced the Awards ceremony. CAF Third Vice President Sulieman Waberi and CECAFA President Wallace Karia were also present.
Suleiman Mahmoud Jabir, President of the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) said that they are very happy to have hosted a very successful tournament. “Having this tournament in Zanzibar has been a blessing because and we thank CAF for picking Zanzibar to host the event,” added Jabir.
